Trick Or Treat by UrsusArctos Trick Or Treat by UrsusArctos
October Cover- Stories for Children Magazine - Check them out!

Halloween is coming up! I think I'm going to be a mummy because I am always, always cold, and this will give me an excuse to wear some warm thermals under all those wrappings!

I'm the cat and my boyfriend is the devil- suits him pretty well :)

It's really cute

Norke already said some good things.

I'll just add that the front pumpkins need some shadows in the inner. Maybe what you could try if you can have a carved pumpkin is to put light in front of it and see where are the shadow/highlights.

And personally I would add more shadows on the faces, but that could be a matter of taste, I'm a shadows and contrasts addict

Thank you so much for you advice!I originally had more shadows on the face but another critique I got said that the heavy shadows made them look less young. So much to consider! I appreciate your input.

I like the drawing. There is only one thing I might see some room for improvement. The light-blue hat (sorry for my bad english) seems to be pasted on this head. It looks like it's been curved on a completely other head and then pasted on top of this head. I wouldn't really notice it, but the rest of the drawing is flawless.

Colorwise it's also hard to critique. I think the following things are just personal preferences. The 3 pumpkins in front seem to have a much brighter color then the two behind them. This gaves me the impression you use the light that comes from behind the viewer. It gaves the painting an inviting character. But the colors are so different on the pumpkins that I wonder why you haven't shaded the guys holding them as well.

The background is well positioned, but the colors seems to be rushed. Especially the bushes and the big pumpking. They could definately use a second layer of paint, and I know you can do it, I saw it in their eyes.

:D

Thank you so much for your advice and input! I agree with you that the hat is kind of glued on looking- i will try to adjust it more.

I will try to rework the background as well. I have a difficult time descerning when it is appropriate to have a lot of detail, and when it is not. I kind of went for a flatter view- but you are right, I think it could be stronger. Thanks so much for your critique!

Cool piece, makes me wish I was young enough to still trick or treat.

I know, right? I've had a couple of college students trick or treat my house and it's always a little odd...

Fortunately I'm short so I fully intend on trick or treating alongside my future children. :)
